For suspects
When a crime has been committed, an investigation will be conducted under the leadership of either a police officer or a prosecutor. The leader of the investigation will decide whether there are grounds for suspecting someone of the crime.
Help is available to the victims of crime throughout the legal process. There are specific rules for crimes involving victims under the age of 18, including that the crime must be investigated quickly.
Almost 100,000 people are called to testify in the Swedish courts each year. The general obligation to give evidence exists to help the courts reach the correct verdict.
